THEIR WORLD IS NOT OUR WORLD

Their World is Not Our World is a series of photographs and video essay set in the Oostvaardersplassen, a fantastical man-made “wilderness” just 30 kilometers from Amsterdam. The Oostvaardersplassen is populated with animals bred to resemble extinct versions of themselves, including a version of cows back-bred by Nazis in the 1930s. Along with the animals, the main characters are a photographer who is obsessed with the animals, and her smitten assistant, who narrates the film. The work explores the boundaries between wildness and control and the human desire to connect with, but also to dominate, the Other.
