ECLIPSE PUBLICATION
This limited edition artist publication was produced for the installation of Eclipse at MASS MoCA from September 2014 to September 2015. Eclipse is a video and sound installation commemorating the extinction of the passenger pigeon.
This publication consists of: an introduction by New Yorker writer Elizabeth Kolbert, whose conversations with Sayler/Morris about the growing extinction crisis were the point of departure for the project; original photography by Sayler/Morris of passenger pigeon specimens; archival images; and an account of famed 19th Century Shakespearean actor Junius Brutus Booth’s ritualist grieving of the slaughter of passenger pigeons. The publication was provided to visitors during the installation’s run at MASS MoCA and is now available in a limited edition.
